Steemit is a blockchain powered blogging platform, and it is a very good platform in many ways. If you write good posts on Steemit and manage to get a crowd reading and upvoting your posts, you can actually earn some good money. But, Steemit has its weaknesses!
Why is the blockchain technology so good? All information is stored on distributed ledgers. This is to make sure that the information written is stored, and it is taken care of. It cannot be altered, to make sure that fraud doesn’t happen. This is great, but it comes with a weakness at the Steemit platform currently.
I want to write about accessing US Netflix on Steemit
Let us imagine, I want to write an article on Steemit on how to watch US Netflix in Australia. It is a great topic, and there are lots of Australians interested in knowing more about it. I write my article and decide to publish it. The article might go viral, it might get a lot of upvotes, but that doesn’t really matter. In the article, I decide to recommend HideMyAss, a service currently helping you get access to US Netflix.
A couple of weeks later I discover that HideMyAss doesn’t work with American Netflix anymore. What do I do? I visit Steemit, but I then discover that I cannot edit my article anymore. And even worse, I cannot even delete it. What is the status of the article? It was brilliant when I originally wrote it, but now it isn’t true anymore, but I have no chance of changing the content of the article. People who read the article might find it brilliant, but since it isn’t working, they will be tricked.
Of course, most blog posts written out there on normal platforms will become outdated in the same way. But, on those platforms you have the chance to update your article, in order to make sure that the information is still correct. Unfortunately, most bloggers do not update their old articles, but here in the IP Address Guide, we do!
And that is the problem with such articles on Steemit
I really enjoy Steemit as a platform, but it should be read with cautiousness when it comes to articles that might turn outdated. In the world of VPN providers and geo-blocking things are changed every day, and in such a world, Steemit posts cannot be trusted. Beneath you can see a screenshot from a Steemit article describing for how long you can edit and delete articles on the platform.
For how long can you edit and delete a Steemit post?
The general rule is that you can only delete a post on Steemit until it has been upvoted or someone has placed a comment on it. So, if someone has commented or voted for your article, it is already too late.
If you want to edit the article, it can be done for about 7 days. Since Steemit pays you for articles after seven days, you only have seven days to make changes to an article. After this, the information is stuck forever and cannot be changed.
