September 12th has been a day many have been waiting for because of the arrival of the brand new Netflix show, The I-Land. I have been one of those waiting for this show with great expectations, and I just had the chance to watch the first ten minutes of the pilot episode.
I hadn’t heard of The I-Land before I checked the list of what’s coming to Netflix in September 2019. That is when it showed up, and as I watched the trailer, I was intrigued at once. As I read some of the comments to the trailer, I turned even more curious as people started to compare it with The Hunger Games, Lost, and Westworld… all in one show.
As I woke up today, I immediately checked if the show had arrived at Netflix, and there it was.
Since I am in my working time, I couldn’t stream the full episode, but I decided to give the first minutes a try. After all, it is very easy to judge a show based on the first minutes. To make the test worse, I decided to watch the first ten minutes with my wife. She is super-picky when it comes to TV shows, and she normally ends up watching her telephone instead of the TV series (if it is boring). We started the show, and I was positively surprised.
The I-Land managed to get my attention immediately, and the first ten minutes went very fast. We first meet one girl who wakes up on a beach without knowing who she is, where she, is why she is there. She is quickly accompanied by another girl. This one is not at all friendly, but they chat and discover that neither of them knows anything at all. But, they both woke up at the island with an object next to them. Slowly other people start to show up, and they are all dressed the same, and nobody knows anything about who they are or why they are there.
As they sit down to chat, they discover that names are written in their shirts. But, are those their real names or what kind of names are those? The first person we meet receives the name Chase. She is curious and wants to understand what’s going on, so she sets out to walk on the island.
The 10 minutes The I-Land brake was suddenly over…
And that is when 10 minutes was over. I told my wife that the little break was over and we had to finish. She looked at me sadly and sad… why are you so strict? And then I said, we will continue tonight!
But, the fact that my wife was satisfied and wanted to watch more should be considered a giant compliment to the show itself. And to be honest, I really found the first ten minutes to be interesting and I now look forward to continuing tonight as well. Not many shows manage to catch my interest so quickly, but The I-Land looks promising.
Based on the trailer, I know quite a lot about what is going to happen in the show as the story moves on, but still – Netflix has done a great job producing this show, and I believe this is going to be a big success for the streaming provider.
Also, I am often negative when it comes to the lack of productions from other providers on Netflix. But, a thought that has crossed my mind lately is that Netflix is turning more into its very own TV network, removing other content, and instead they show their own content. But, they have tricked us all into it, and now we pay a lot of money to watch this TV network called Netflix every single month. How smart it is? But again, as long as Netflix keeps on producing all the great original content, it might be worth the money!
Brave New World – The I-Land season 1, episode 1
The first episode is named Brave New World, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you better be courageous enough to give it a try. If you don’t like it, blame me. But, if you like it, make sure to share the article on social media and let more people know about it!
The first episode was named Brave New World. After this, there are six more episodes available and the upcoming episodes are called:
- The Gorgeous Palaces (The I-Land season 1, episode 2)
- The Insubstantial Pageant (The I-Land season 1, episode 3)
- Many Goodly Creatures (The I-Land season 1, episode 4)
- The Cloud Capp’d Towers (The I-Land season 1, episode 5)
- The Great Globe Itself (The I-Land season 1, episode 6)
- The Dark Backward (The I-Land season 1, episode 7)
Will there be any more The I-Land after this? If it becomes a giant success, I guess Netflix will produce more seasons, but currently, it says that this is a limited Netflix series. Will everything come to an end after the seven episodes of The I-Land season 1? I don’t know yet, but I guess we will know much more within the coming weeks as Netflix see the statistics dealing with the number of viewers worldwide.
