Surfshark has only been around since 2018, but it is already among the biggest and most popular VPN providers in the world. It is quite interesting to see the growth curve of Surfshark as it looks different from most VPN providers on the market. One of the easiest ways to see this is by looking at the growth in the number of servers.
When the IP Address Guide launched in 2012, many VPN providers experienced incredible growth. TV networks and streaming services introduced geographical blocks, but they did not block VPN providers bypassing them. As a result, you could use any VPN on the market to access Netflix, BBC, NBC, CBS, ITV, and thousands of other TV networks and streaming services.
It was in a time like this that HideMyAss actually reached servers in nearly 200 countries. PureVPN and IPVanish followed in their footsteps. But, then something happened. The number of customers decreased, and so did the countries in which the same providers operated servers. Today, PureVPN has servers in approximately 70 countries, and IPVanish has servers in 49 countries. HideMyAss still has servers in more than 200 countries, but they seriously lack marketing and I doubt that there is a flow of new customers coming their way.
No matter what, Surfshark is growing steadily and continuously updating and upgrading its services. That is why I had to update my Surfshark GUI application for Ubuntu as well before I write this article… things are always improving and getting better.
All the Surfshark servers are RAM-only servers.
The Surfshark servers are running on RAM-only servers. What does that mean? It means that all servers run on the most recent software updates and that they do not store any data. In addition, they are completely wiped occasionally.
I know, most people don’t really think much about this, and they do not care about whether Surfshark has servers in Bangladesh and Brunei or not. But, if you are looking for an IP address in those exact countries, then the most recent server additions will come as a nice gift.
