The Mule, 2018 (8/17)
Mortal Engines, 2018 (8/24)
Can You Ever Forgive Me?, 2018 (8/31)
The HBO show Our Boys seems to be a very interesting series about conflicts in the Middle East, all taking place after the disappearance of three boys. The Righteous Gemstones is hard to describe, but somehow it is a comedy show making fun of televangelists and portraying a man making a lot of money from the industry.
The highlight on HBO in August is for sure The Favourite. This is an Academy Award-winning movie starring Emma Stone, Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz. The queen is ruling the country, but she is not really controlling it, but instead – her helper (Rachel Weisz) is the one governing the matters. But, when Emma Stone shows up as a helper on the door and starts to influence the queen, we are set for a big battle between Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz.
If you don’t consider The Favourite a favorite movie, then maybe Aquaman will be so instead. Finally, the biggest hero in the DC Comics universe together with Wonder Woman will come to HBO Now. The movie was a giant success, and even though I considered it to be quite boring, it will for sure attract a lot of viewers to HBO in August.
Mortal Engines is a big arrival as well. I have to say that the trailer looks really boring to me, but if you like fantasy movies, this might be a treat for you still!
The Mule was a hit in the theaters as well. It was considered really boring by all my friends, but if you want to see Clint Eastwood in the role as a mule, or a someone dealing with drugs and delivering drugs, then The Mule will be on HBO in August 2019.
The final movie worth mentioning is Can You Ever Forgive Me? starring Melissa McCarthy. This is based on a true story about a writer who faked content from famous authors such as Hepburn. It is a different kind of Melissa McCarthy movie, and maybe that in itself gives us all a reason to watch the movie.

There isn’t much to shout joy about on the list of general movies coming to HBO on August 1st. Chariots of Fire is a classic, but few modern kids will be interested. But, if you want an old classic, this is a good place to start. Besides that, there isn’t many movies worth mentioning right here.

Tully, 2018
This might be the most interesting list dealing with HBO in August 2019. There are quite a lot of awesome movies leaving the platform as August comes to an end, meaning that you should hurry up and start streaming right away.
The Prestige is a movie about two competing magicians from 2006. I didn’t really enjoy the movie so much, but it should still be watched if you like movies about magicians. I am a giant fan of Now You See Me, and this was far more serious and tiring compared to those movies, but still – worth a watch.
The Pelican Brief is old, but a fantastic movie with Denzel Washington and Julia Roberts. I remember watching the movie when it was new, and it was great. It might feel a bit out of date when it comes to the quality of the filming, but the script is still awesome.
Ocean’s 8 is the female version of the Ocean’s movies. I know it received quite a lot of poor critics, but I enjoyed it a lot. There are so many turns in the movie (many of the comes very surprising), and they have really managed to create a good movie out of this. Don’t miss out on it!
I can also recommend Geo Storm from 2017. This is a typical catastrophe movie with Gerard Butler in which he is out to save the world from destruction, due to giant climate changes. This isn’t the best movie from 2017, but it sure comes with action and will do a good job entertaining you if you like Gerard Butler, a space station, and geo-catastrophes.
