Today I wanted to take a look at Spotify and listen to it. I wrote an article how to listen to Pandora Internet Radio earlier today, and thought it was about time to try Spotify as well. But, I did not get far before I stumbled into a problem. The Spotify website told me that “Spotify is currently not available in your country.” What a pity!
Was that the end of us testing Spotify? Not at all! If you do not know it, Spotify is currently available in the following nations: Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. (list from Wikipedia on October 30th, 2013).
To be able to enjoy the services of Spotify you will therefore need to be located in one of these nations. If you got the same error message that we did, that probaby means that you are not located in any of these nations. To fix the problem you need to get to one of these nations, if not physically, then at least virtually, and that is what we did. You need to get an IP address in one of these nations. Since we have written a whole lot about different VPN services on our website that easily gives you IP addresses in other nations, we simply connected to a VPN server in one of the nations with Spotify, restarted our browser and tried again. And guess what, Spotify worked! We could now register and listen to all our favorite music, easily and enjoyabe. If you are English speaking we recommend connecting to a server in an English speaking country like the UK, the US or maybe Australia. If you know German then Austria or Germany can be good calls.

Be aware of the fact that Spotify has a web version that can be used, but you can also download a Spotify client to your computer and later you will be able to easily find your favorite music again and listen to it. To us it seems as if you only need the IP address in another nation to be able to register. If you have registerred we have been able to use the Spotify program for Windows without actually using the VPN connection.
