One might be tempted to think that people in Australia are looking for ways to watch American Netflix, and that is it. But, you would be surprised to discover the number of people searching for information on how to stream Japanese Netflix in Australia. Do you know why? Netflix Japan is one of the best countries for content on Netflix, and there are lots of Hollywood blockbuster movies available on Netflix Japan that you cannot find elsewhere. But, how is it done? How can I watch Netflix Japan in the land of kangaroos?
Earlier this week, I wrote an article about all the fantastic anime series available on Netflix in Japan. Maybe that is your motivation for getting access to Japanese Netflix? No matter what your motivation is, or if you just do so in order for your kids to stay quiet while you work, or if you want your grandmother to have a good time in front of the TV, this is the easiest and quickest way to watch content on Netflix in Japan outside the borders of the country, which then includes Australia, Spain, France, USA, Canada, Turkey, and all the other countries of the world.
Stream Japanese Netflix all across the world
Have you ever heard about VPN services? A VPN is a Virtual Private Network, and it is used to encrypt your online activity. It has always been used a lot, but during COVID-19 with lots of people working from home (having home-office) it has been even more popular. This is a way to secure your data online, making it way harder for hackers and intruders to steal your data or spy on your activities online.
When you use a VPN, you will change your IP address as you initiate the VPN tunnel, and you will surf the Internet with the IP address of the VPN server you are connected to. So, if you use a VPN and connect to a server in Japan, you will get a Japanese IP address, and you should in theory be able to watch Japanese Netflix while in Australia or elsewhere. However, it isn’t that easy!
Netflix doesn’t really like the fact that people use VPN services to access content on Netflix in other countries, and that is why they block many of the IP address used by small and big VPN providers.
If you use a VPN like HideMyAss, ExpressVPN, IPVanish, StrongVPN, or ProtonVPN and connect to a server in Japan, one of two things will happen:
- You might see an error message telling you that you are using a VPN and that you need to disconnect from the server (proxy and unblocker error).
- It might seem like everything is alright, but in reality, you only see Netflix Original content, and not the actual content of Netflix Japan. It means that Netflix allows you to use a VPN, but they do not allow you to watch the local content available on Netflix Japan. Instead, you will only see the globally allowed Netflix content.
Do you get the point? To fix this, you need to use a VPN that isn’t blocked or discovered by Netflix. That might seem hard, but there are two VPN services that have been working steadily with Netflix Japan for a long time, and those are SurfsharkVPN and NordVPN. If you want to visit their websites, click the buttons below.
Get a big discount if you click the NordVPN button above. They have a full refund policy valid for 30 days, so there is no risk in trying. NordVPN also works with Netflix in Canada, USA, UK, and in the Netherlands.
SurfsharkVPN is one of the cheapest VPNs on the market, and it works with Netflix in more than ten countries. Just like with NordVPN, you can use one subscription on many devices, and they have a 30-day full refund policy. If you want to know more about SurfsharkVPN, take a look at the following review.
Are you ready to stream?
When the VPN is warmed up…
Is the VPN warmed up and ready? Have you downloaded the VPN application to your devices? Connect to a server in Japan, visit Netflix, and you are ready to watch all the content on Japanese Netflix in Australia, in Egypt, in South Africa, in Sweden, and in all the other countries of the world. That is solid and good news, isn’t it?
Did you know that Japanese Netflix is one of my favorite Netflix regions together with Canadian Netflix? Do you know why? Because Netflix Japan is one of the first countries to give access to Hollywood blockbuster movies. In 2020, it was the first country to let its users stream Joker on Netflix, and it is also awesome when it comes to anime series.
But, I don’t care so much about your motivation for streaming Japanese Netflix… I just hope that these instructions will help you have a wonderful time and that you will sit ready to stream all your wished for content in a few minutes from now.
